Can your potential customers find you?
March 21st, 2011I heard an advertisement on the radio today saying about 1/3 of businesses have a website. This company wanted to make it easy for small businesses to make a website. That is a great START, but they need to do much more then to get their existing customers to their website. That is why SEO is so important, to get someone looking for what you sell to your website.
Yahoo Incoming Links
August 11th, 2009Yahoo doesn’t directly have an incoming link function. To do this go use the site function. Then you will see everything linking to the site, and incoming links. For example site:seo-blog.info
Driving Traffic to your Website
July 21st, 2009The best place to start to figure out how to drive traffic to your website is to use the Google Keyword Tool. You neek to know what people are searching for. This is called a keyword or a search term. Let’s say that your website is all about ‘Free Widgets’. Go to the Google Keyword Tool at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and put in the search term “Free Widgets”. You should see something like Local Search Volume: 18,100 and Global Monthly Search Volume 27,100. That is the number of people that generally search for “Free Widgets” for a given month, both domestic and global. If you change the [Match Type] pull-down box from ‘Broad’ to ‘Exact’, you will see that the number of people that EXACLTY search for the term “free widgets” is Local Search Volume: 2,100 and Global Monthly Search Volume 6,600. The numbers change each month, so you might have slightly different results due to them being updated.
Once you know what people are searching for, then you can optimize your website to rank well on the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs) when they are typing for these search terms that you are targeting.
Google Keyword Tool
July 20th, 2009This is one of the best tools out there for determining how frequently a Search Term or Keyword is used. https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
Broken Link Checker
May 27th, 2009One of the best Broken Link Checkers is from Axandra (IBP - Internet Business Promoter). This uses the W3C validator and gives a report for the whole website.
Pagerank
May 15th, 2009How important is Pagerank? Pagerank takes over when sites have a similar search relavance for the search terms searched for. Pagerank becomes the most important factor when you are competing against others that are also strong in SEO skill. In these cases I would say that Pagerank is the ONLY thing that matters - meaning you have to do everthing else right AND have a higher Pagerank.
